The pair came out exactly the size I gave them, which still feels like cheating after years of half sizes that never fit. Only grumble: the pile moults onto my socks for the first few wears.

Off the shelf pairs always leave a gap somewhere. Mine doesn't, and two hours in I forget they're on my feet.

Straight from box to con floor.

A full weekend at a meet meant hotel carpet, gravel and a wet walk back, and the pair still looked the way they did on the first evening. People in gear kept turning round for a second look at the design, which I'll take.

Wet tile is the weak spot: the tread lets go a little until it wears in. Gravel and carpet are fine.

Two walks in, the upper still pressed above my heel and I nearly wrote it off. By the fourth it had given enough and the boot follows my foot now. Nothing else to fault.

My last pair wore its tread flat in a season; six weekends on this one and the edges are still square.

Balanced enough to stand all evening.

Fresh lining, laid in under the arch rather than dropped in, and both boots come up level. What I would tighten is where the lining meets the top edge; it is a shade soft there.

Cut after the order, and it shows.

New pair, tidy seams.

The upper has held and the fit is where it should be. Only fault: built to my length and my width, it still sits roomy around the ankle, so on uneven ground I feel the boot move under me. Everything else is what I hoped for.

Fits like it was measured, which it was. I would like a darker sole side, and that is the list.

Not a thing moved over a long walk, and the size is mine.

Ordered, made, worn, fine.

Sized to me, not to an average. That is the whole difference.

Measuring my brother in law's foot on the kitchen table felt like guesswork. They fit him straight out of the box, so the worry was wasted. My only grumble is the wait, since they are only made once you order and a birthday does not move.

A plain heavy box with no picture on it, and I was sure I had picked something silly. It turned out to be newly made, shaped around her own foot, and they were on her feet for a school event that same term without any fuss.

Happy yell down the stairs the moment the boots were out. All that foot measuring was evidently worth it.
