Urban Motion

Danced a whole set in them and the grip on a slick floor is the part I trust most now. Honest note, the exact fit leaves no slack on a long day, so I was glad to be out of them by the end.

Worn all day without once thinking about my feet, which is the whole test.

Gave them my size, waited the weeks, and got a boot that behaves like it was traced around my foot. Sole, upper, pile, every part of it new and none of it borrowed from another pair.

Past the third hour at a slow meet, the pair starts to feel heavy on my shins. Everything else I asked for is there: a fit built around my own numbers, all of it new, and the heel stays put. Lighter would suit me.

Both go in a duffel, no creasing on the way back.

Along both sides the join between sole and upper runs as one unbroken line, which is the part I inspect before anything else, and this pair was made up for me alone. The only note I have is that the pile lies a shade darker where two panels meet.

Newly made, and they went on without a fight: after a few evenings the boot still stands up at the heel instead of slouching, and the lining has not shifted.

Toe is the sour note: the photos curve it, the boot reads square. Everything else is tight stitching and a clean upper, and I would keep them.

Unremarkable in a good way. Walks all day and says nothing about it.

Two miles, nothing sore.

Knowing her foot was measured first took all the risk out of it for me.

Weeks went by while it was built, and it fit her foot first time, which I had not dared hope.
